Job Networking Bootcamp - Asking For The Meeting

Onoccasions, networkers have problems asking for meeting because they don’treally understand that networking is mutually beneficial process.  If you are one of those people, review myvideo called, ‘Why networking works’, then continue in this bootcamp.  The key to networking success is tounderstand that you aren’t asking for a giant favor that creates a giantdebt.  Skillful networking is low key,low intensity, low demand, and low risk for both parties.  All you doing is asking for little time.  There are two methods that I use exclusivelywhen I network.

Thefirst one is People that I know and can put on my list.  Second is the people to whom I refer to.  You only need these two methods.  For people you know, try this: [See screen].  This opening will their attention by askingfor their help.  You will get a positiveresponse because one, you’ve been friendly, two, you’ve been honest and direct, three you’ve asked not too much.  And yousay just a little helpful advice.  Andfour, the person is curious about what you want.  Continue by asking for 15 or 20 minutes oftheir time tough you gather some information about position yourself in the jobmarket.  All you need to share is alittle bit of your background and see if that information would generate anyideas.  Keep it simple but direct.  The best majority of people will give you 20minutes or more.  Always say thank youand said it time at convenient at their schedule.

For people who you were refer to, state that yourecently met with your mutual friend and he recommend that I contact toyou.  Give him a very brief elevatorspeech and make the same speech mentioned above.  Something like this: [See screen]. Always be direct and honest, but no wish-wash (Defn:1. a weak or watery drink. 2. insipid talk or writing.).  Don’t ask for too much to be pushy, just beup front and state your willingness to be flexible to gain 20 minutes of theirtime.  Most people will give a littleinitiative, 20 minutes are good time. They feel important and respected. People really like that.  Now let’sdiscuss what you should do in actual networking meeting.  This is Rich Alexander and thanks so much forwatching.
