지난 이틀동안 배운 단어와 문장의 스트레스를 이용해서 리듬감을 느껴 봅니다. 아직 음의 높낮이를 이용하는 인토네이션 부분을 배우진 않았지만, 충분히 리듬감을 느끼실수 있습니다.
요리하면 스트레스 해소에 좋다고 하니 오늘 저녁은 직접 요리해서 배우자를 즐겁게 만들어 주는 것도 좋을듯 합니다. 단, 라면은 요리에서 제외하고….

Do you cook? Well, if you don’t, maybe you should. Because of from a stress point of view, cooking is a great way to prepare for life itself. It involves on a smaller scale. A lot of the same skills and attitudes / you need to survive out in the world.
For example, a meal has to be thought out beforehand, so it requires good planning skills. Ingredients have to be purchased, calling for knowledge, judgment, and economy. Artistic ability comes into play / in the meals / makeup and presentation. Most importantly, everything must be orchestrated / to be completed within a reasonable time frame. Finally, it should all be done in a spirit / of conviviality and graciousness.
If you can master the challenges of the cooking, you will be more than rewarded with great meals, you will develop the skills to succeed at pretty much everything. So start cooking! 과정에 필요한 스킬과 태도는 사회생활에 가장 필요한 그것과 동일하다는 것인데, 여기서는world 를 강조 하고 싶은 것입니다. 그래서 마지막 단어를 필요이상으로 길고 높은 음성으로 발음을 해 줍니다.

ability comes into play / in the meals / makeup and presentation 밑줄친 부분을 잘 들어 보시면 동사 play 뒤에 갑자기 숨표를 줍니다.
보통은 동사 와 목적어 사이에 숨표를 주지 않지만 이와 같이 자신의 의도를 강조하기 위해서 의도적으로 끊어주는
요령이 듣는자의 집중을 유도하는 효과적인 테크닉입니다.
- must be orchestrated / to be completed 이 표현을 잘 기억해 두시기 바랍니다. “~을 하기 위해서 ~한다”, 영작표현에 아주 유용하게 쓰일수 있고 회화에서도 아주 빈번히 사용할수 있는
표현 입니다.
예를 들면: “당신은 인생에서 성공하기 위해서는 무었이 가장 중요하다고 생각 합니까?”를 영작 해볼까요?
성공하기 위해서는 = to succeed
하다고 생각 합니까? = be the most important

또한 생소할수도 있는 단어인conviviality 를 쓰기위한 사전 정지 작업으로 숨표를 줌으로써 듣는 사람의 집중을 유도하고 있습니다.

pretty much everything 여기서도 위의 표현과 유사한 “~을 하기 위해서 ~한다”라는
to부정사의 용법을 사용 합니다. 같은 뜻으로 부정사 대신
-ing로 대체 할수도 있습니다.
will develop the skills succeeding at pretty much everything 미묘한 뜻의 차이를 감지 할수도 있지만 실제 대화에선 그리 중요한 차이가 아닙니다. 작문을 하다보면 동일한 형태의 to-부정사를 계속 쓰면 뭔가 좀 지루한 느낌이 들 때, 이런식으로 -ing를 사용함으로서 문장에 탄력을 줄수도 있다는 것이지요.
- I’m G. Gaynor McTigue! 보통 미국인들이 자신의 전체 이름을 말할때, First name + Last name으로 표시하는데 이사람은 특이하게 자신의 퍼스트네임은 acronym으로 처리하고 미들네임
전체와 라스트 네임을 불러 줍니다. 가끔 first name 대신에 middle name 을 first name 대신에 쓰는 사람이 있는데 이사람의 경우가 그렇군요.
스크립트 없이 이사람의 이름을 발음만 듣고 정확히 받아 적을수 있겠습니까? 원어민이라 하더라도 정확히 받아 적을수 없는 경우가 많습니다. 일반적으로 많이 쓰이는 이름이 아닌경우에 말이지요… 그래서 타인의 이름을 천천히 정확히 불러달라는 표현으로 Would you spell out your name, please? 라는 표현을 많이 사용 합니다. 그러면 전~혀 기분나쁜 표시 없이 당연한듯, 천천히 자신의 이름스펠을 하나씩 불러 줍니다.
그런데 만약 -g와 -z가 들어있는 경우는 어떻게 표현 할까요? 공포의 -r 과 –l은 또 어떻게…? 비록 스펠을 불러 주더라도 못알아듣는 경우가 있어서 이런 경우는 다음과 같이 표현을 해 줍니다.
It’s ‘g’ as in George, ‘z’ as in zebra, ‘r’ as in ‘Robert, ‘l’ as in ‘Linda’, ‘b’ as in boy, and ‘v’ as in Victor. 이러면 정확히 받아적을수 있습니다…. 때로는 as in 대신에 like를 사용 하기도 합니다. ‘g’ like George 이런 식으로… 전 as in을 더 선호 합니다.
