English Grammar & Punctuation : How to Use Apostrophes

You know one of most confusing thing in grammar is the Apostrophe: when and when not to use the Apostrophe.  I’m Page Carerra.  We’re gonna take a look and five easier ways to identify where you should use an Apostrophe.

Let’s take closer look.  I’ve got five examples for you:

  1. Toms secret:  Basically it’s pretty easy when you’re trying to show ownership, which is the first example, when you should use Apostrophe.  Cause you basically saying, whose secrete is it?  It’s Tom’s, it’s showing that Tom owns secret, and that showing ownership.
  2. The second way to use an Apostrophe is when you showing ownership to a noun that may be ends in s, this is singular noun ends in s.  And still you wanna use Apostrophe s here, when you trying to explain the bus’s schedule.
  3. The next example is when you have a plural noun and you want to show ownership.  ‘the children’s playground’ this is a correct here.  You wouldn’t want to leave s here and then put an Apostrophe, because this itself is ‘children’. it’s collective noun rather.  And so this is correct, or if it makes more sense.  ‘Or the people’s choice award’.  People as plural noun here and all you have to do is just putting an Apostrophe s on the end.
  4. And the fourth instance, when you wanna use an Apostrophe, it’s a use for contractions that brings two words together.  Do not is an example that we use a lot, and contraction for this would be don’t.  Another example would be can not. Of course, Can’t is another example.  Don’t run across the street, again don’t is your contraction here, and you wanna use a shorten word.  Do not, cause you’re talking about not running across the street, and this is where you use Apostrophe.
  5. A lot of students find example is when you’re talking about dates and letters.  Example in 1990’s there were plenty of thing’s going on in America.  And for instance, using the letters I got four As on my report card.  And you can see as I scroll down little bit, here you go, very good student, wish it was true, but hey.

So I hope this helps you about using Apostrophes today, I’m Page Carerra, Happy Writing.
